nit: make into dartdoc (probably needs to be moved below the dirCount field).
Given that this is pretty general, it seems you can describe this without
mentioning 'tests'.

another way is to use Futures.wait:


var futures = [];
for (...) {
  ...
  var d = ...;
  if (d.existsSync()) {
    var completer = new Completer();
    futures.add(completer.future);
    var lister = d.list(...);
    ...
    lister.onDone = (c) => completer.complete(c);
  }
}

Futures.wait(futures).then((_) => onComplete(files));
