I believe the answer is no, because the in-process cases of this track the
decoder as a Resource or as a VDA::Client, and both are null-checked as
appropriate already.

Ilya: can you confirm that you don't see the crash when running flapper
in-process?

The originally reported crash is fixed with and without in-process option. (But
the other issue in my comment 1 remains - I can file a separate bug or we keep
it open.)
