I think this should use the ashmem interface instead of ordinary anonymous
memory.

Good idea, but I need to learn how to use ashmem, and probably need to learn how
to run tests on Android.

I'd like to do this as a separate change. I have filed

I would add a comment like this one

  TODO(4480): use ashmem instead of anonymous memory

You can replace the bug number with your name if you would prefer that.  Using
ashmem is very straight forward.  I will update the bug with the information you
need to know.
